Kidderminster Town Hall

The Town Hall has a great tradition of hosting pop and rock music shows.  Possibly the most famous period was 1963 - 1966 when it seemed everybody appeared there, but the Beatles.   The Rolling Stones strutted their stuff on March 26th 1964,  when “ Not Fade Away” was in the charts.   Another of the greats - The Who - appeared three times.

The Town Hall's other famous period was 1980 when U2 played and UB40 performed promoting their "Food for Thought" Top 10 album.

The early years of the Kidderminster rock scene can be read in “ Get Your Kicks on the A456” by John Combe.  The first print was sold out, but it will soon be available again - see www.kidderocks.com.

In more modern times Jo Hill was involved in the Jackie Jennings Appeal, organising a concert at the Town Hall in December 2006.  Local superstar Robert Plant agreed to perform, bringing back the original English Honeydrippers, which included top guitarists Robbie Blunt and Andy Silvester.  Also on the bill that night was Kidderminster's own boogie r 'n' b vocalist/pianist Mike Sanchez with his band, and several local groups.  The result was a superb night's music and a lot of money raised, making a great contribution towards the Appeal.  The funds raised enabled Jackie to go to Boston and receive Proton Beam therapy for a life-threatening tumour, which thankfully was successful.

As a result of the success of the Appeal, the Proton Effect charity was formally launched and will benefit from the proceeds of this year's Kidderminster Music Festival.
