The Proton Effect began informally in 2006 to support the Jackie Jennings Appeal and took its name from the Proton Beam Therapy that Jackie needed, but couldn’t get in the UK.

To raise funds for Jackie’s treatment, sourced in the USA, friends and family pooled their energy, ideas, talents and resources and launched a series of events. Robert Plant and Mike Sanchez supported Jackie at the initial Press launch of her appeal. Throughout the fundraising, everyone involved gave generously – their time, donations, gifts for raffles and auction, use of premises, professional expertise and wholehearted commitment – and from those who attended the series of events that culminated in a fantastic concert held at Kidderminster Town Hall in December 2006, headlined by Robert Plant with the Return of the Honeydrippers and Mike Sanchez and the Portions, enough funds to support Jackie’s expenses for her treatment.

Twelve months on, Jackie has a new job, feels happy and healthy and has planned her summer holiday. With Jackie’s support and approval we set up The Proton Effect Charity to help other cancer sufferers in our area that can’t get all the funding they need from Wyre Forest PCT.

In 2008 The Proton Effect plans to raise funds by putting on new and exciting events locally. We would love you to get involved too. You can, in many ways. By attending one of our events, or organising your own, through sponsorship, donation or simply buying a raffle ticket. Most of all, we want you to have fun and enjoy your involvement – share your energy with us and join in the ‘funraising’!
